Brief Description:  Right wing fuel tank #4

This is the first update in a while, but I've been moving forward since my computer crashed and I had to recover many of my pictures. I will get my log up to date when I get the chance, but starting tonight, I'm back to updating every evening.

I'm trying to get into the workshop at least an hour every night. Tonight, I wet set the rivets in place, one rivet at a time after prosealing the rib 2 nights ago. This is rib # 4 from the outboard edge, which was prosealed and 100 % clecoed 2 nights ago.

I mixed up a fresh batch of sealant of 40g/4g and I'm finding that weight ratio is sufficient to completely cover the rivet heads and place a nice bead of proseal down the rib, encasing everything. I'm hoping this added proseal will make for a leak free tank.

I started at the leading edge, removed the cleco and nut (6/32 on each cleco for a tighter grip - Chad Jensen's site) and cleaned both sides of the rivet hole with acetone. I then use a tooth pick to completely fill the rivet hole and then place the rivet (cleaned in acetone) into the hole until the proseal is squishing out the sides.

Once the rivet is set, I clean the top of the skin, and move onto the next rivet. I do that for the one side, and repeat the process for the other side, all in the cradle. I also use a Dewalt light that can be twisted around and have it set into the rib, so I can see the rivet very clearly when I buck it.

Once the rib is 100% riveted, I then cover the entire flange with proseal, making sure that there is plenty on the rivet heads, and try to filet it nicely on the edge.

I heard a lot of complaints about the "black death", but using Rick Galati's method http://www.vansairforce.com/community/showthread.php?t=7602 of prosealing the rib, then clecoing 100%, come back a day or 2 later and wet set the rivets, is really not bad at all and a minimum of mess.

I'm happy with the progress so far. Later tonight, I'll go in and proseal and 100% cleco another rib, and then rivet the rib I prosealed 2 days ago.
